Characteristics of Prophet Muhammad
peace and blessing be upon him
The Muhammadan Good Treatment to His Relatives
Treating the kinships in a good way is a duty. Who can do that duty better than the Messenger of Allah, God’s blessing and peace be upon him? Let’s now mention two or three events which certify this.
1. The Prophet’s speech of Abu-L-‘As Ibn Umayyah who was an atheist at the beginning, then he embraced Islam and became a good respectable Muslim. He said of him when he was atheist, ‘The people of so and so are not my companions but there is a relation between them and me, and it is my duty to treat them well’.
2. Abu al-Tufail said, ‘When I was but a little boy, I saw a woman approaching the prophet, God’s blessing and peace be upon him and he soon spread his garment to her and sat on it. I asked, ‘Who is she?’ They said, ‘She is his mother who nursed him’’.
3. When he prayed and his grandchild Umama (the daughter of his daughter Zainab) was near him, he carried her while praying and when he prostrated, he put her beside him. This is also one of the great signs which denote his good treatment to his relatives.
4. He used to send food and clothes to his foster mother, Thuwaiba, the servant of Abu Lahab. When she died, he asked about her relatives and they told him that she has no relatives, and really if he was told that she has one relative, he would do his duty towards him/ her. God’s blessing and peace be upon him.
