The Twelfth Miracle : The Longing of the Trunk Because of its Yearning for Muhammad, God’s Blessing and Peace be Upon Him
Ahmad, may Allah have mercy upon him, transmitted from Jabir Ibn Abdallah, may God be pleased with him, he said: ‘The Messenger of Allah used to deliver the sermon (Friday sermon) on a trunk of a palm tree which was used by him as a platform.
A woman from the Ansar who had a son who worked as a carpenter talked to the Prophet and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! My son is a carpenter, shall I tell him to make a platform for you in order to use it when delivering your sermons?’ The Messenger of Allah, God’s blessing and peace be upon him, accepted the woman’s offer and soon the wooden platform was ready.
Next Friday, when the Messenger of Allah stood on the new platform in order to deliver the Friday sermon, the trunk of the palm tree moaned and wailed.
The Messenger of Allah, God’s blessing and peace be upon him, said, ‘This trunk cried because it is no longer able to hear the extolment of God’.’
In the Hadith (tradition) of al-Bukhari, it is said that when the Messenger of Allah, God’s blessing and peace be upon him, heard the moaning of the trunk of the palm tree, he went toward it, embraced it and said, ‘It wept for the extolment of God it used to hear’.
This is a great miracle which shows the truth of the Messenger’s message.
