Miracles of Prophet Muhammad
The Thirteenth Miracle: The Praise (Glorification) of Pebbles in the Messenger’s Hands and the Greeting of the Trees
Al-Hafez Abu Bakr al-Bayhaqi, may Allah have mercy upon him, transmitted from Suwayd Ibn Yazid al-Sulami, he said, ‘I heard Abu Zar al-Ghaffari, may God be pleased with him, saying, ‘I have pleasant memories of Uthman. I respect him too much especially after that story which I witnessed’. Then he began telling that story: ‘I used to watch the Messenger of Allah in his privacy (seclusion). One day, I saw him sitting alone so I seized the opportunity and came and sat beside him. Then Abu Bakr came, he greeted him and sat to his right. After a moment, Omar came, greeted the Messenger and sat to Abu Bakr’s right. Then Uthman came and sat at Omar’s right. The Messenger of Allah, God’s blessing and peace be upon him, held seven pebbles in his hands, they praised Allah and I myself heard their yearning. Then he put them on the floor and they became silent. He took them again and put them in the hand of Abu Bakr and they also praised Allah and when he put them on the floor they became silent. When Omar put them in his hand, they also did the same thing and also the same thing happened to Uthman. At the moment, the Messenger said, ‘This is the caliphate of prophecy’’.
This miracle has two parts (portions); the first is the glorification of God by the pebbles in the hands of the well-directed Caliphs and the second part is that the caliphate was limited to the sincere (Abu Bakr), al-Faruq (Omar) and Zu-al-Nourain (the owner of the two lights) Uthman. Yhen the caliphate was confused.
