Miracles of Prophet Muhammad
The Eighth Miracle : Little Food Suffices Many Men
Al- Bukhari transmitted from Anas Ibn Malik, may God be pleased with him, his speech,
‘Abu Talha said to Umm Salaim, ‘I have heard the voice of the Messenger of Allah,
God’s blessings and peace be upon him, and it is so weak because of hunger.
So, do you have any food to support him?
Umm Sulaim said, ‘Yes, I have’.
She brought some loaves of barely bread and wrapped them up in her own veil and concealed them under my arm, then she sent me to the Messenger of Allah, God’s blessings and peace be upon him. He said, ‘I went and found the Messenger of Allah, God’s blessings and peace be upon him, sitting with some people in the mosque’.
When the Messenger of Allah saw me, he asked me, ‘Has Abu Talha sent you?’
I said, ‘Yes’
he said, ‘Has he sent some food?’
I said, ‘Yes’.
The Messenger addressed those who were with him ‘Come with me’. They all accompanied me and we came to Abu Talha and I told him what had happened.
Abu Talha said, ‘O Umm Sulaim! The Messenger of Allah has come with some
people and we have nothing to feed them’.
Umm Sulaim said, ‘God and His Messenger know better’.
Abu Talha hurried to the Messenger of Allah and they both came to the house of Umm Sulaim. The Messenger of Allah, God’s blessing and peace be upon him, said to Umm Sulaim, ‘O Umm Sulaim! What do you have?’ She brought the loaves. The messenger of Allah asked her to put some fat on it and to crumble it (to break it into small pieces).
He then asked ten men to come and eat, they came and ate till they were satisfied and went out (left). Then, other ten men came and ate till they also were satisfied. All the people who accompanied the Messenger of Allah were satisfied and they were about seventy or eighty men.’
Is not this of the greatest miracles? By God! It is of the greatest miracles. If it is not a miracle, so what can it be called?.
