Miracles of Prophet Muhammad
The Utterance of the Deer and Its Faithfulness to the Messenger of Allah
God's Blessing and Peace be Upon him
In his book, «The Signs of Prophecy», Abu Na'im transmitted the story of the deer.
He transmitted from Thabit al- Banani, from Anas Ibn Malik, may God be pleased with him, he
said that one day, the Messenger of Allah passed before some people who had hunted a deer and
fastened it to a column of a large tent.
The deer said, «O Messenger of Allah! I was hunted by these men and I have two fawns (young deers). Would you please tell them to allow me to go and nurse the two fawns of mine and then go back to them?»
They let it go and indeed it went, nursed its fawns and came back to the people. They again fastened it.
The Messenger passed by them and said, «Where is the owner of this deer?»
The Prophet said, «Where is the owner of this deer?»
The people said that they are her owners.
He said, «Let it go to nurse its two fawns and then it will come back to you».
They said, «Who confirms that it will return?
The Prophet said, «I shall let it come back».
They pointed to a man among them. He said: «Do you sell it?»
They said, «It is yours, Messenger of Allah».
The Prophet told then to let it go and really, they released it and it went.
