The Fifteenth Miracle : The Wolf Witnessing the Messenger’s Message
In his Musnad (tradition), Ahmad, may Allah have mercy upon him, transmitted from Abu sa’id al-Khidri, may God be pleased with him, he said, ‘A wolf took an ewe. While he (the wolf) was about to eat the ewe, the shepherd saw it and took the ewe from the wolf. At that moment, the wolf squatted on its tail and said, ‘Don’t you fear God? How could you deprive me of a substance that God Himself offered to me?’
The man was so astonished and said, ‘What a strange thing! The wolf is talking to me like human being’.
The wolf said, ‘Shall I tell you of something which is stranger than my speech? Muhammad is a human being who tells the people of the news of the people who lived so many years ago’.
The shepherd drove this sheep till he reached Medina. He put this sheep aside and went to the Messenger of Allah and told him his story with the wolf. The Messenger of Allah asked the Muslims to gather and asked the shepherd to tell them the story and indeed he told them everything. The Messenger of Allah, God’s blessing and peace be upon him, said, ‘By God! The Hour of resurrection will not come till the predatory animals speak to men, and the man speaks to the tassel of his whip and shoe.’
Thus, this is one of the signs of the Muhammadan prophecy. This sign has two parts: The first one is the wolf’s speech to the shepherd. The second is the man’s speaking to the tassel of his whip and that is the telephone which is known today.
