1- Self defense, resisting occupation. When Muslims fight it is not to force people to become Muslims but to ensure their freedom of choice. No one is to be killed just because he is not a Muslim. The Holy Quran says: "There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in taghut and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing." (2:256)
2- Alleviating religious persecution and establishing freedom of religion so that people may have the opportunity to think freely and practice their religious convictions. (e.g. Egypt has Christians, Muslims and idolaters)
