Womens' Rights in Islam

Introduction

Before reading this study about woman rights in Islam I have to mention why did I ever think of writing it anyway. Islam is one of the most misunderstood religions on earth. Part of this misunderstanding is caused by Muslims themselves. I think we can classify Muslims to the following categories:
1- The Islamic Scientists and scholars who are trying to explain the real Islam to everybody (Muslims or non-Muslims)

2- Muslims who really understand Islam, they may not be the ones who pray most, or the ones who never leave the mosque, however they breathe Islam. You can know that from the way they treat people, Muslims or non-Muslims. They understand that Islam is not all about praying but it is all about reforming human life. They do their best to clarify the image of Islam to the whole world…They are ready to communicate and befriend any human who is ready to listen.

3- Muslims who love Islam and believe in it. They pray, fast and perform their religious duties but are not ready to do more than that. They care for themselves and their families only and do not consider themselves as responsible for Islam and do not care much about reforming human life. Being Allah vicegerent on earth is just a slogan they learnt but do not really contemplate in what it means.

4- Muslims who hide behind Islam to achieve their own goals. They play on that sensitive part…Religion…claiming that they are the defenders of Islam when they know nothing about it except growing a beard and polygamy. They believe (or imitate that they believe) that they know Islam better than anybody, they can judge the whole world, they are God’s hand on earth consequently they can kill in the name of Islam, steal in the name of Islam. In short do what they please and they will try desperately to justify their actions based on Islam

To claim that the above classification is complete is a lie…there are surely other types of Muslims however I think that these are the major types.

Why am I writing this study..? because if I can’t be from the first category (which I am not), I sure would like to be from the second category.

In fact I am a Muslim computer engineer, I am from the sex some think Islam considered as inferior. I am a woman…and I am telling you I do not feel at all that Islam regarded me as inferior…on the contrary…Islam gave me the respect and responsibility I longed for…

In this study I wanted everyone to know what womens’ rights in Islam are…Read and then judge for yourself if you regard this as unjust. I rarely refer to other religions because my purpose here is not to attack others but to communicate with them and to make them see things from our Islamic perspective…
