Umm Kulthum, may Allah be pleased with her
Her Birth
She was born shortly after Ruqayya, her mother was the mother of the believers, Khadija, may Allah be pleased with her.
Embracing Islam
She embraced Islam with all her sisters, may Allah be pleased with them, as soon as her father, peace and blessings be upon him, declared his Prophethood.
Her Marriage
Ruqaya and her sister Um Kulthum, were engaged to Utba and Utayba the sons of the Prophet's uncle Abd Elozza who is known as Abu Lahab
The Divorce
As soon as Quraish heard of Muhammad's Prophethood, they started to fight against the new religion. The leaders of Quraish suggested that any one engaged or married to one of Muhammad's daughters should divorce them, and in return they would help him to marry any other woman in Mecca.
Abu-Al-As the husband of Zaynab, may Allah be pleased with her, refused to divorce her but Abu Lahab threatened his son that he would disown them if they refused to divorce the Prophet's daughters and so they divorced them.
Utayba did not stop at the divorce but started to harm the noble prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, even blood relationship did not stop him. The noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed to Allah that a dog would attack him. While he was in his trade a lion attacked him and ate his head in front of all the people.
Her struggle
After the divorce, Um Kulthum, may Allah be pleased with her, lived with her younger sister Fatima in the house of the prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. And so, she lived among the waves of torture to all Muslims in Mecca.
Then Hamza Ibn Abd El-Mutalib (the Prophet's uncle) and Omar Ibn Elkhattab, may Allah be pleased with them, embraced Islam. That made Quraish even more furious.
Quraish boycotted Muslims to besiege them politically, economically and socially she stood by Muslims in Abu Talib's valley leaving the comfortable life her house and stayed there in hunger, struggle and sufferings for three years.
Then her noble mother died. She and her younger sister stood patiently in the face of all these events.
Emigration to Medina
When Quraish's torture to Muslims increased, The noble ordered Muslims to emigrate to Medina, then he followed them. At that time he left his two daughters Umm Kulthum and Fatima were left in Mecca in the custody of his second wife mother of the believers, Sawda, may Allah be pleased with her.
Shortly after the noble Prophet reached Medina that he sent Zaid Ibn Haritha to bring Umm Kulthum, Fatima and Abu Bakr's family to Medina.
Her Marriage to Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him
After the battle of Badr and the death of Ruqaya, may Allah be pleased with her, The noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saw Uthman sad so he asked him for the reason.
Uthman answered that that no one had seen as much sadness as him. His beloved wife the Prophet's daughter died, his son died and his in-law relationship to the prophet ended.
At that time, Allah ordered the Prophet to marry his second daughter um Kulthum, may Allah be pleased with her, to Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him. That is why Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, was called the one with two lights.
She stayed married to Uthman for six years and had no children.
Her death, may Allah be pleased with her
Six years after marrying Uthman, Um Kulthum got ill. Her illness was lethal. She died in the month of Shabaan nine years after the emigration to Medina.
The Prophet buried her with his hands. After her death the noble Prophet's consolation to Uthman was : "If I had a third daughter (unmarried, Fatima was then married to Ali, may allah be pleased with him) I would have married her to you Uthman".
