Mother of the believers Juwairiya bint Al-Harith
Her Family :
She was married to Musafe ibn safwan who was killed.
Her name was Bara until the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, changed it to Juwairiya
Meeting the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him :
By that time Juwairiya was about twenty years old, When Muslims
distributed the captives among them, she was in the share of
Thabet ibn Qays. She made an agreement with him that he would
free her in return for money.
She then went to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah
upon him, and asked his help to be freed from slavery.
The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah upon him, sympathized
with her and he asked her : "would you like something better than that ?"
At that time she was twenty years old. Although Juwayriyya was young and beautiful and of noble lineage, the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was thinking of how to save her and all her tribe from an ignoble fate.
By marrying Juwayriyya, the Banu Mustaliq would be able to enter Islam with honor, and with the humiliation of their recent defeat removed, so that it would no longer be felt necessary by them to embark on a war of vengeance that would have continued until one of the two parties had been annihilated. As soon as the marriage was announced, all the booty that had been taken from the Banu Mustaliq was returned, and all the captives were set free, for they were now the in laws of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Thus A'isha once said of Juwayriyya, "I know of no woman who was more of a blessing to her people than Juwayriyya bint al-Harith.". Because of this marriage the captives of around one hundred houses were released.
Ibn Hisham narrated that her father came to free his daughter and was ready to pay Thabet Ibn Qays, the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, gave her the choice between marrying him or returning with her father. She said : "I have chosen Allah and his Messenger".
Later her father and two of his sons embraced Islam.
After they were married, the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, changed her name was Barra to Juwayriyya.
In the Prophet's house :
Aisha, the mother of the believers may Allah be pleased with her, said
about Juwairiya "She was good looking and captivated whomever saw her".
AlEmam Althhabi said that Juwairiya, may Allah be pleased with her, reported
seven Hadiths one in Sahih Al-Bukhari and two in Sahih Muslim and from those
who reported on her authority Abdullah Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him.
Her death :
She was Juwairiya daughter of AlHarith son of Abu Dirar son of Labib alkhuza'iyya from Banu Al-Mustalik tribe. Her father was the chief of his tribe Banu Al-Mustalaik.
The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah upon him, knew that Banu
AlMustalek were preparing to invade the Muslims in Medina, so he
decided to attack them by surprise before they attack Medina.
The Muslims won the battle. Juwiriya, may Allah be pleased with her, was
among the captives.
She answered anxiously : "what could that be, Messenger of Allah ?"
He answered : "I will pay your contract and marry you "
She accepted without hesitation
It has been related by Juwayriyya that early one morning the Messenger, peace
and blessings of Allah be upon him, left her room while she was doing the
dawn prayer. He returned later that morning and she was still sitting
in the same place.
"have you been sitting in the same place since I left you?" he asked.
"Yes," she replied.
Whereupon the Prophet said, "I recited four phrases three times after I
left you, and if these were to be weighed against what you have been
reciting since dawn, they would still outweigh them. They are: 'Glory be to
Allah and Praise be to Him as much as the number of his creations, and His
pleasure, and the weight of His Throne, and the ink of His words.'
Juwauiriya, may Allah be pleased with her, died in 50 (or 56) AH during the
caliphate of Muawya when she was sixty five (or seventy) years old.
May Allah have mercy on her.
